Motivational Interviewing for Vaccine Conversations
A patient may be hesitant to receive a vaccine for varying reasons. Health care providers should strive to understand these reasons and to offer tailored confidence-building information. With Motivational Interviewing, a provider acknowledges a patient’s autonomy, and meets the patient where they are at, and responds to the patient’s individual level of knowledge, needs, and questions. This approach helps to foster trusting and harmonious healthcare relationships.
