Electronic Health Record Assessment

As we near the end of our contract term with our electronic health record, or EHR, vendor in 2025, we’ve heard plainly the importance of taking the time to complete a thorough assessment of this tool. Our investment in an EHR, its role in efficient operations and revenue cycle, and the impacts upgrades or implementation could have within our entire system demand we slow down, find alignment, and move forward together.

We have heard a wide spectrum of perspectives statewide on the ideal solution for an EHR. Individual Tribes and Tribal organizations have shared diverse needs. In 2025, the ANTHC Board will be in a unique position to balance all these needs.

ANTHC is working with Impact Advisors to complete the EHR assessment. This will be the first part of informing what our next steps together should be and there is no prescribed outcome or solution to this issue.

Your feedback is critical. Whether your Tribal Health Organization, or THO, is on the current shared EHR domain or not, we want to hear:

  • About your experience with the current EHR;
  • Why this topic is so important for your organization; and
  • How an ideal EHR would support statewide, specialty care, including case management when patients return to home regions.

Why Your Voice Matters

In order to arrive at a solution that serves all partners and patients in the Alaska Tribal Health System, we strongly encourage the appropriate members of your organization to complete the comprehensive assessment of the EHR system.

  • All THOs are encouraged to participate. Again, your participation is helpful no matter what EHR your organization currently uses and regardless of your intent to join a shared system. The findings of this process will be integral in identifying the best possible solution.
  • We will be soliciting feedback from across participating organizations, including clinical and professional staff. A diversity of perspectives will help us understand operational inefficiencies, gaps in care coordination, and opportunities we should strive for over the next 10 years.
  • THO representatives choosing to participate should have a detailed understanding of workflows, including what is working well and gaps in systems and processes, and should be able to elaborate on their concerns in real time.
  • Impact Advisors will provide subject matter experts to support any targeted focus areas for follow-up and problem definition.
