IGAP

Indian General Assistance Program
The Indian General Assistance Program (IGAP) was created to assist federally recognized Tribes and intertribal associations to plan, develop and establish the capacity to implement programs administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and to assist in the development and implementation of solid and hazardous waste programs for Indian lands. IGAP helps Tribes to meaningfully participate in policymaking, standard setting, and direct implementation activities potentially affecting Tribal environmental protection interests.
ANTHC’s Tribal Capacity & Training received an IGAP grant from the EPA to provide technical assistance and training opportunities to Tribal environmental programs.

Quarterly Networking Call

7 Generations
Communities in rural Alaska are faced with many unique and complex environmental issues. Building community strength to identify and solve problems is a powerful process that can lead to a healthier and more sustainable community. The 7 Generations training is an interactive workshop that introduces participants to a community-based approach for developing local environmental plans. The training also introduces the basics of common environmental issues that can affect health such as drinking water, wastewater, solid waste, fuel storage, air, energy and climate, etc.

SWAT

Solid Waste Alaska Taskforce
The Solid Waste Alaska Taskforce (SWAT) is a multi-agency taskforce that formed in November 2014 to help tribes build sustainable solid waste programs. Each member organization has their own mission and works on their own solid waste projects. However, the cross organizational structure of the team and the common purpose of helping Alaskan communities develop sustainable solid waste programs has created synergy amongst members. SWAT meets regularly to coordinate projects, share data and information, discuss progress on their individual projects and arrange events to gather input from stakeholder and other resource providers.

2024 Workshops & Trainings

Intro to GAP:

The Indian General Assistance Program (IGAP) is an EPA Grant given to Tribes to address environmental concerns. If you are new to the IGAP program, this training will help you learn how to navigate the grant process from writing work plans and budgets to proposals and quarterly reports. This training is open to anyone: environmental coordinators, Tribal leaders and administrators etc. Whether you have an IGAP award or you work with tribes, you will gain new skills over these three days.

7 Generations:

7 Generations addresses village environmental issues for future generations of Alaska. During this interactive workshop, participants will learn a community-based approach for developing local environmental plans. The training also focuses on team-building, community involvement, identifying environmental concerns that can impact health, and learning about ways to address local issues.

7 Generations Climate Change Adaptation Planning:

Date: Sept. 4-6
Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day
Location: Fully in person at the Nuka Learning Institute in Anchorage
Registration: Open until Aug. 21: Click here to register.

This 3-day interactive training will teach you how to craft environmental plans with a focus on climate change adaptation. Come prepared to brainstorm and collaborate on solutions for the future! You will walk away with a good understanding of climate change adaptation and what it means for your community, and tools to address climate change impacts. In-person attendance all three days is required to receive a mailed certificate. Additional information, including hotel and flight discounts will be provided after you register.
