Please join us in raising awareness for breast cancer on Indigenous Pink Day, Thursday, Oct. 19, by participating in our Instagram photo contest!

ANTHC’s Health Promotion and Cancer Program invite all Alaskans to wear pink on Thursday, Oct. 19, post a photo on Instagram using the hashtag #IndigenousPink, tag @anthctoday, and tell us why you wear pink in the caption.

Contest rules:

1. Follow the ANTHC Instagram page (@anthctoday).

2. Take a photo of yourself wearing pink and post it on Oct. 19.

3. Tell us why you wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.

4. Use the hashtag #IndigenousPink in the caption. One account will be randomly selected to win a Ninja Blender.

The winner will be contacted by @anthctoday. This contest is building on the American Indian Cancer Foundation’s Indigenous Pink Day, a national breast cancer awareness campaign for Native people. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Native women.

From the American Indian Cancer Foundation: “Indigenous Pink Day aims to educate Native communities about the importance of early detection, and remind women, men, non-binary, and genderfluid relatives to talk to their doctors about breast cancer screening.”

Current guidelines suggest most Alaska Native women to start screening in their 40s. Make a plan with your health care provider for breast cancer screening.
