Campus construction update: Construction activities for Short-term Skilled Nursing Facility – Dec. 19, 2024
December 19, 2024On any given day, the Alaska Native Medical Center is caring for dozens of patients who no longer need hospital-level care. While they are well enough to leave the hospital, they are not quite ready to go home.
Construction is actively underway on ANTHC’s Short-term Skilled Nursing Facility on the corner of Elmore Road and Ambassador Drive. The facility will provide patient care at the appropriate level and improve our ability to support acute patient care needs at the hospital.
Installation of underground utilities is complete; the permits for footings and foundation and core and shell were received; the value engineering team continues to assist with the maintenance and optimization of the project budget; ICF blocks at the courtyard and north walls were installed; crews are filling in the back wall and excavating on the Phase One section; bracing and backing for the exterior walls were installed; and temporary coverings and spot heating were set up for the winter.
Upcoming milestones:
A full design package is expected soon. The mechanical and electrical permits will be received in mid-January 2025. The full building permit will be received in February 2025. The footings and foundations will be completed in March 2025.
Construction impacts:
Visitors to campus will likely notice new construction activity. Noise levels will rise in the immediate vicinity due to heavy equipment operation.
