ANMC Pharmacist first in Alaska to receive Pain Educator certification
April 7, 2017ANTHC’s pharmacists are continually working to further their education and training to improve their skill sets and provide the best care to our people. Aimee Young, ANMC Inpatient Pain Pharmacist, recently passed her exam to become a Certified Pain Educator (CPE). Young is the first health care professional in Alaska to receive this certification.
A pain educator is a health care professional who provides education about pain assessment, evaluation, and management through consultations within a clinical practice or via formal presentations and direct contact with other health care professionals and/or patients. Pain educators practice in a wide range of health care settings and focus on transferring knowledge and teaching others about pain.
“I am excited to become the first health care professional in the state of Alaska to hold this credential,” said Young. “Credentials such as the CPE allows us to continue to work toward providing the highest-quality health services to our patients at ANMC.”
To take the CPE examination, a candidate must be a current member of the American Society of Pain Educators and be able to furnish documentation proving their eligibility, which includes having at least two years of full-time experience in a position in which at least 10 percent of their time is devoted to providing pain-related education to clinical peers and/or patients, in addition to having completed at least 30 hours of pain-related educational activities.
“Patient comfort and satisfaction while in the hospital is very important to the Inpatient Pain Service,” said Young. “Now that I have this credential, I am confident that we will continue to provide the most up-to-date pain management strategies, patient and provider education, as well as top-notch patient care.”
Congratulations to Aimee on her achievement and in going above and beyond to provide the best care to our people.
