Aniqsaaq – new research study for Alaska Native people who want to quit cigarettes

September 23, 2024

Aniqsaaq is an Inupiaq word that means “to breathe.” The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and Mayo Clinic are partnering on the Aniqsaaq research study for Alaska Native adults who want to breathe freely without cigarettes. The objective of the study is to evaluate a family-based financial incentives intervention.

The study is open to Alaska Native adults who want to quit smoking cigarettes. Participants will join the study with one adult family member who will support them.

Study participants will get information about quitting smoking and will do eight at-home breath and saliva tests over 18 months. They will be paid $25 for each test. They will also answer survey questions about themselves three times over 18 months and be paid $25 for each survey.

Both cigarette smoker and their family members are encouraged to join the study! Please fill out this screening form to see if you can join: https://surveys.mayoclinic.org/jfe/form/SV_afwN710oL87K8yW
