ANMC celebrates Patient Safety Awareness Week with clinical staff members

March 24, 2017

March 12-18 marked Patient Safety Awareness Week, an annual education and awareness campaign for health care safety led by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF). ANMC’s Quality Department worked to create awareness on campus by utilizing NPSF educational resources to educate hospital staff and patients. This year’s theme was “United for Patient Safety: Every Day is Patient Safety Day.”

The focus of the campaign is to highlight and reinforce that everyone within the health care system has a role to play in keeping patients safe and free from harm. Patient engagement emphasizes the importance of the relationship between providers and patients and their families.

ANMC’s main focus this year was educating staff on risk event reporting, hand hygiene and the national patient safety goals.

“Patient safety is paramount in the care we provide our people every day,” said Lucinda Crow, Manager of Clinical Quality. “At ANMC we are all united in the goal of keeping our patients and those who care for them safe and free from harm.”

As part of raising awareness for health care safety, ANMC’s Quality Department and executive leadership team rounded each day and Quality staff went around the ANMC hospital with a roving coffee cart and snack items promoting patient safety awareness. Staff also handed out information on how to report clinical risk events and swag items with the Risk Reporting Hotline number.
