Emergency Department Expansion Project

About the ANTHC Emergency Services Expansion (ESE)

ANTHC is moving forward with construction for Phase 1 of the ESE project, which includes floors 1-3 and renovations to the existing Emergency Department. Improvements that will come with the expansion of floors 1-3, include:

  • 21 additional Emergency Department patient care spaces
  • 12 new Clinical Decision Unit beds for observation
  • 15 additional behavioral health treatment space
  • 10 new surgery recovery bays
  • New, dedicated drive through ambulance entrance
  • Core and shell design necessary to build floors 4-6

ANTHC is also moving forward with designing floors 4-6 as we seek additional funding to support construction of Phase 2, which includes:

  • 60 new inpatient beds;
  • Private inpatient rooms (converting from semi-private);
  • 32 new adult inpatient beds; and
  • Helipad to enhance trauma services.

While we have a lot of work ahead, we are making significant strides to improve the services we provide.

Construction and Parking Updates

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

On Wednesday, April 24, and Thursday, April 25, a drilling rig will be mobilized to drill bore holes in the east side hospital exterior, parking lot, and north of the hospital. This will result in vibration and noise. Drilling will happen during standard business hours. 

PARKING UPDATE

Starting on Friday, April 26, construction crews will take over more of the ANMC hospital east side parking lot for construction staging. The east lot parking is reserved for patients. Additional parking locations include: the ANMC Patient Housing Garage (north of the hospital), the Denali Parking Garage (east of the hospital), the Flattop Mountain Parking Garage (south of the hospital).

COMING UP

The demolition of the former Dental entrance octagon and east side exterior canopy is scheduled for early May. Demolition of the octagon and canopy will take place during standard business hours. During demolition, traffic will be rerouted around the fenced area which is reflected by the blue dotted line in the image below. Please watch for rerouted traffic patterns around construction activities.
