Health Promotion & Disease PreventionProviding culturally appropriate wellness and prevention health education strategies
Health Promotion & Disease Prevention
ANTHC’s Health Promotion and Disease Prevention program works with Tribal partners and communities throughout the state of Alaska to provide culturally appropriate wellness and prevention health education strategies.
The program leads the Store Outside Your Door initiative, which promotes the knowledge and implementation of traditional foods. Our work for Store Outside Your Door was recognized in 2013 by the American Diabetes Association Promising Practice Award of Excellence and the 2013 Alaska Public Health Association Alaska Community Service Award.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention also hosts the annual Alaska Plants as Food and Medicine conference to educate and promote proper harvesting, processing, storage, use, preparation and distribution of Alaska plant products.
In addition, the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention program offers a number of education and training opportunities including: nutrition consultation; hot topic webinars; digital storytelling training; and community wellness presentations and trainings.
