Tribal health participants needed for online pilot of tobacco treatment specialist training

December 9, 2016

The ANTHC Tobacco Prevention Program is working with our Tribal health partners to offer online tobacco treatment specialist (TTS) training. Three participants from each Tribal health region are invited to take the online course beginning January 11 and ending March 22. The Tobacco Prevention Program first tested the training this spring on the Alaska Native Health Campus with ANMC providers and other partners. This second pilot course will help inform course improvements before going live for other participants later in 2017. ANTHC has been hosting in-person annual TTS trainings on campus since 2006, but this pilot project will allow more participants to take the course, especially those who live off of the road system. It will also allow for more training access year round, rather than just one time per year. The course contains eight online modules, which participants can complete at their own pace and are eligible for Behavioral Health Aide education credits. Samples of course materials and a training preview can be seen online. To sign up for the course, contact Tobacco Prevention Program staff at tobacco@anthc.org.
