Tickets available for Thrive! Live Comedy Event with the 1491sNovember 9, 2017
The Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation and the ANTHC Injury Prevention program are pleased to present “Thrive! Live Comedy Event” with sketch comedy group the 1491s on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown.
The 1491s, a sketch comedy group self-described as, “a gaggle of Indians chock full of cynicism and splashed with a good dose of indigenous satire.” The 1491s have a prominent voice in popular culture and media, including on a Daily Show segment about the use of the Redskins mascot, contributing commentary on the Occupy Wall Street movement, and with their latest “Represent” series which highlights the modern ways Native Americans represent their culture. Using digital media and comedy, the 1491s address stereotypes in hopes of changing the common narratives around American Indian people.
The event will open with musical performances from Alaska Native artists AKU-MATU, Edward “TaterTott” Tate and the Cupiit Yurartet Drummers and Singers.
The event is Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 6:15-8:30 p.m. at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown. Tickets are available at inspiringgoodhealth.org and at the door. Advance online tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for youth. If available, tickets will be sold at the door for $40 for adults and $20 for youth.
