It’s not too late to get your flu vaccineDecember 6, 2017
Flu season is well upon us in Alaska and it’s time to get a flu vaccine to protect yourself and your loved ones. Getting an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu.
All across Alaska, flu vaccines are available from your local health care provider. It is important for everybody to get vaccinated for the flu to protect ourselves, as well as our family, co-workers and community. In addition, influenza poses a greater risk to certain people like pregnant women, children and Elders – who are all at high risk for flu-related complications.
In October, ANMC held walk-in flu vaccine clinics every Saturday, and more than 500 patients received their flu vaccine. ANMC also held a flu vaccination clinic at the Alaska Federation of Natives Conference and more than 350 attendees received their flu vaccine.
It is not too late to receive your flu vaccine! The influenza season can run from about September-May, but usually peaks between December-March. So, if you haven’t received your vaccination, please do so to protect yourself and others around you from the flu.
