Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation graduates four CHAPs

October 9, 2017

Congratulations to the recent group of Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation Community Health Aide/Practitioners (CHA/Ps).

The CHAP Session IV graduates include:
Sephora Trefon, Perryville
Madison Ayson, Chignik Bay
Sophia Petla, New Stuyahok
Melanie Chingliak, Goodnews Bay

The training sessions were completed in Dillingham in two parts, June and August.

Two instructors, Carolyn Craig and Cora Bosshart, came from Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage. The in-person training supplemented online distance learning the health aides had completed over the past few months.

The Community Health Aide Program is a network of about 550 Community Health Aides/Practitioners in more than 170 rural Alaska villages. CHA/Ps are part of an established referral relationship that includes advanced level providers, physicians, regional hospitals and the Alaska Native Medical Center. In addition, providers such as public health nurses, physicians and dentists visit villages to see clients in collaboration with the CHA/Ps.
