As the Emergency Services Expansion (ESE) project at the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) progresses, construction crews will soon need to demobilize the giant crane used during steel erection. On February 9-12, both eastbound lanes and one westbound (left) lane on Tudor Centre Drive will be closed nightly from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. The roads will reopen during the day.
On the night of Monday, February 9, the Emergency Services Department’s North driveway will also close for several hours to allow the crane to be tracked out to the street. AFD and ambulance traffic will be notified that access will be from the South this night.
With temperatures fluctuating this month, levels 1 and 3 have been enclosed to retain heat, and slab work on levels 1 and 2 is almost complete. Pan decking is being installed in zones 5-10, and structure side plates and moment connections are being secured and aligned.
Potential Operational Impacts:
The crane operation and steel installation will have minimal impact on hospital operations. There may be some disruptions due to noise or vibration as workers progress. The closure of Stairwell 6 is ongoing and is scheduled to continue through the Spring of 2027.
The project is on track for completion in Spring 2028.
