Going to school can be an amazing time in a student’s life but it can also be challenging. For most students, there is a constant juggling act between time, money and resources.
By providing scholarship opportunities and highlighting others available to you, ANTHC hopes to lessen the burden of the cost of school so you can focus on achieving your goals.
Available Scholarships:
ANTHC Board of Directors Scholarship
New for the 2026-2027 academic year, the ANTHC Board Scholarship is now open to part-time applicants! ANTHC offers 10 $5,000 scholarships for full-time enrollment and 10 $2,500 scholarships for part-time enrollment to qualified Alaska Native and American Indian students.
This scholarship is open statewide. Scholarships may be used for tuition, room and board, books and fees.

About the Scholarship
ANTHC’s Board of Directors established this scholarship to increase the number of Alaska Native and American Indian people working in health care related fields. Some examples of a health care related field include, but not limited to:
- Clinical (ex., nursing, provider, nursing assistant, medical assistant, respiratory therapy, etc.)
- Behavioral Health
- Engineering
- Business
- Public Health
- Trades
Eligibility Requirements
- Alaska Native and/or American Indian
- Permanent Alaska resident
- Interested in working in a healthcare-related field
- Full-time enrollment: Undergraduate, 12-plus credits; Graduate, 9-plus credits.
- Part-time enrollment: Undergraduate, less than 12 credits; Graduate, less than 9 credits
- Higher education includes the pursuit of:
- Certificate
- Associates
- Bachelors
- Masters
- Doctorate, or Ph.D.
- Technical education
- Trades education
Application Instructions
For your convenience, check out the scholarship application process checklist. Gather all documents and prepare to complete the application. Submitted materials will not be returned.
To begin, gather all required documents:
- Alaska Native and/or American Indian proof of eligibility
- Proof of Alaska residency
- Personal statement
- Current professional resume
- Letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment
- Two letters of recommendation
- Official transcript
Submission Details and Application Cycle
The yearly application cycle opens each spring and is open during the month of March. Students can either submit their application electronically by clicking the link below, or by mail.
Application period is from March 1-31, 2026

APU Scholarships for Alaska Tribal Health System Employees
Alaska Pacific University (APU) offers tuition scholarships covering up to 30% of tuition for degree or certificate programs at APU for ANTHC employees or board members, Alaska Tribal Health System (ATHS) employees, and their dependents. The Early Honors program covers 100% of tuition for up to five high school student dependents of employees and board members.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include:
- ANTHC employees
- Alaska Native or American Indian employees or board members working in the ATHS and their dependents. Please submit a copy of your Certificate of Indian Blood documentation along with your Employment Verification form to the Financial Aid Office.

Application Instructions
There are three steps to the application process:
1. Complete the ATHS scholarship application
2. Complete an Employment verifications authorization form, which is due no later than the Friday before your first class begins. Some examples are below:
- If you are enrolled in Session only courses, your employment verification must be received no later than the Friday before Session starts.
- If you are enrolled in Block & Session, your employment verification must be received no later than the Friday before Block starts.
- Employment verification forms cannot be submitted more than 30-days before the start of the semester. Early submissions will be rejected, and you will be required to resubmit.
3. Submit a copy of your Certificate of Indian Blood documentation (if applicable)
Application Cycle
Submit information by the deadlines as set by the APU Financial Aid Office, dependent on the University Academic Calendar. Scholarship availability, terms and conditions are reviewed annually.
Additional Scholarships
ANTHC Employee Match Scholarship:
APU will match up to an additional 25% of the remaining total tuition due that is the student’s responsibility to pay, after the Alaska Tribal Health System scholarship is applied.
To qualify, the ANTHC employee must be Alaska Native or American Indian. Eligibility is determined the same way as the ATHS scholarship above using the scholarship application on the APU website. APU matched funding will not exceed the remaining cost of tuition.

Indian Health Service (IHS) Scholarship Program
The IHS scholarship provides selected Alaska Native or American Indian students with fully paid tuition and related fees, funds for travel and books and a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

Eligibility Requirements
- Complete the IHS scholarship application and required forms
Must be Alaska Native and/or American Indian and provide documentation of Tribal enrollment or proof of descent from a federally recognized Tribe - Current letter of acceptance from selected educational institution listing declared degree or proof of application
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended or high school transcripts if less than 12 college credits have been earned
Application Cycle
The application cycle is typically open between December – March. Please visit the IHS Scholarship website for next upcoming application dates.

As your Alaska Area Coordination office, we provide support and direction to applicants and continuing scholars and work with the IHS Scholarship branch staff. Please note that the selection process and disbursement of scholarship funds is directly managed by the IHS Scholarships branch in Rockville, Maryland.
