Telehealth – for Providers

Content on this page

Better health, one connection at a time.

Telehealth has changed the face of medicine. In Alaska, we must overcome large geographic differences to ensure patients’ access to care. Telehealth means that we can see our patients when they need to be seen, not only when the weather cooperates.

Yet another added benefit of telehealth? Our ability to share information.

Whether you need advice on a complex case or your patient’s condition requires a specialist’s review, your access to providers across the state ensures your patients will receive the best treatment possible, wherever they may be. Plus, our Telehealth teams will get you, your clinic and your teams up and running smoothly so you can focus on what matters most.

Provider Benefits
  • Access to Alaska Native Medical Clinic’s Project ECHO, an educational and guided practice program designed to help empower rural clinicians.
  • Better connection between providers and better patient care through the use of the Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network (AFHCAN).
  • Real-time support for questions about your patient’s care.
What is AFHCAN?

The Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network (AFHCAN) program was created by ANTHC in 1999, in order to better serve patients throughout rural Alaska and improve the flow of information between two providers. AFHCAN is a “store and forward” telemedicine that uses asynchronous data collection to better connect you with other health care providers and to better provide your patients the care they need quicker. It reduces travel, takes the burden of care off your patient and connects you to a vast network of providers and specialists./ Using AFHCAN might look like this: you see a patient and use the AFHCAN software to create a patient case on an AFHCAN cart, consisting of a computer, a network connection and a variety of attached medical devices. The devices capture data which is then transmitted to another provider for review and consultation. All patient information is encrypted keeping patients’ data safe.

AFHCAN is also used for: Referrals, Radio Medical Traffic, Video Appointment Planning, and Medical Records Transfer.
