ANTHC offers health care training via our Diagnostic X-ray course for providers, communal problem-solving, and education through our telehealth and Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) programs.

Diagnostic X-Ray Imaging Course
Do you work in a rural clinic providing X-rays? Would you like to learn how to better optimize your images and reduce X-ray exposure of your patients and yourself? We’ve got you covered.
This course, created in partnership with ANTHC and Southcentral Foundation (SCF) is specifically designed for health care professionals working in rural clinics who perform medical X-rays. Learn how to get the clearest image while simultaneously reducing your patients’ and your exposure.

About the Course
Phase I and II: Online-based self-directed learning with exams and verification
- Phase I modules include training on X-ray production, X-ray equipment, digital imaging and radiation safety. The lectures are audio-recorded PowerPoint presentations.
- Phase II modules include video and audio lectures on imaging anatomy, positioning and image critique.
- The time requirement to complete Phase I and II is about 8 hours. Most people complete these two phases in about two weeks.
Phase III: Practical Training
- The Radiology Instructor from SCF’s Rural Anchorage Support Unit will travel to your location to provide additional training. This includes X-ray and associated equipment orientation, patient positioning demonstrations and student positioning practice. The onsite visit allows SCF personnel hands-on instruction focused on methods to improve patient safety and comply with state requirements.
- The time requirement for Phase III is dependent upon your location and needs. Typically, this training is conducted over two, 8-hour days.
- Certificates are provided upon successful completion of all three phases.

- Continuing Education Units are available for nurses and physicians. A certificate of completion, copies of the instructors’ credentials, and a course outline will be provided to attendees for continuing education unit purposes.

- Please note: This course does not meet the 10-hour training requirements for operators of a fluoroscope ((which includes C-Arms) (7 AAC 18.420 (c)). This course should not be combined with a 10-hour fluoroscope class with the hopes of operating a C-Arm or fluoroscope.

HIV/Early Intervention Services
The Early Intervention Services Program (EIS) is an internal medicine clinic within the ANMC that provides medical care and case management to Alaska Native and American Indian individuals living with or at risk for HIV, in collaboration with primary care teams across Alaska.
Health care workers can request training and consultations on HIV, PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), and STIs.

Alaska AIDS Education Training Center
Alaska AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) is a HIV/EIS program that delivers innovative education and training to improve access to care and quality of life for people with or who are at increased risk for acquiring HIV. Alaska AETC is part of the Mountain West AETC, mwaetc.org.
Alaska AETC offers education, clinical consultation, and capacity-building on HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Providing additional support for co-morbidities such as viral hepatitis, STIs, and substance use disorders to health care professionals.
Training and consultations are available to all providers in Alaska.

Alaska ID ECHO
Alaska ID ECHO aims to increase tribal healthcare providers’ knowledge about prevention strategies, screening, diagnosing, treatment, and management of HCV, HIV, PrEP, common STIs and related topics. Held on the second Tuesday of the month, noon to 1 p.m. AKST, via Zoom. Visit anthc.org/ak-id-echo for more information.
