Construction project updates at ANTHC

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is continuously improving to better meet the health needs of our people. Check back to this page for new updates on construction projects happening around the Alaska Native Medical Center and Alaska Native Health Campus.

While every effort will be made to minimize disruption to patients, visitors and staff, please allow extra time to get to your location on campus. You may see intermittent road closures and sidewalk closures around campus, look for detour and informational signs.

Alaska Native Health Campus road paving

Last update: August 16, 2019

Phase 3 starts August 19 and will close a section of Diplomacy Drive in front of the hospital and Anchorage Native Primary Care Center (ANPCC). During this phase there will be no through traffic on Diplomacy Drive or vehicle access to the front entrance of ANMC and ANPCC. Patient shuttles will be rerouted to the east side of the ANMC hospital and patients should follow the appropriate detours to access parking for the hospital, Gottlieb Building and ANPCC. Please keep parking open for patients closest to patient care buildings. Please see the map for more details.

For those walking between the ANPCC and the hospital, the crosswalk will remain open. Please use the sidewalks and the crosswalk as there will be active construction on each side.

Please allow yourself extra time to get to your destination during this project. The campus has not been repaved in more than 20 years and this project will improve the sidewalks and road access for campus.

To enter the hospital parking lot from Tudor Centre Drive and Tudor: please drive all the way back towards Patient Housing and use the entrance by the Emergency Department. You will not be able to turn left on Diplomacy Drive to access the front of hospital.

To enter the Gottlieb Building parking lot and building, please take Tudor Centre Drive all the way back toward Patient Housing and use the entrance across from the Nuka Building.

To access the ANPCC, you will be able to do this two ways:

  • To access via the parking garage, you will need to take Tudor Centre Drive to Diplomacy Drive. You will need to take the first left and drive through the Diplomacy building parking lot to enter and exit the parking garage.
  • To access via the rear entrance, you will need to take the westbound loop of Tudor Centre Drive onto the west end of Diplomacy Drive and take your first right into the ANPCC parking lot.

The Healthy Communities Building has all access restored.

Please allow yourself extra time to get to your destination during this project. The campus has not been repaved in more than 20 years and this project will improve the sidewalks and road access for campus.

Additional notes:

  • Diplomacy Drive bus stop relocation: People Mover routes 20, 25 and 55 on Diplomacy Drive will be redirected to the stops on Tudor Centre Drive in front of the ANTHC Parking Garage for phase 2.
  • Taxi lane: This is being temporarily relocated to Tudor Centre Drive during phase 3
  • Emergency vehicle access: All first responders will continue to be able to access campus whichever way is safest and most efficient.
  • Traffic flow change from Ambassador Drive to Elmore Road:After phase 1, traffic flow will change so that drivers will no longer be able to turn left onto Elmore Road from Ambassador Drive. Drivers will need to make a right, go to the roundabout and exit back to go south down Elmore.

The entire project is segmented into five phases. The project will progress from west to east across campus to ensure that there is access to campus at all times. More info will be shared about each phase before it impacts campus.

Please follow all appropriate detour signs for driving and sidewalks. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as these improvements are made to the roads and sidewalks around campus.
