The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) and the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) have launched a new partnership to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals and strengthen Alaska’s workforce.
Through the agreement, UAA students will gain hands-on experience in clinical settings and other professional areas at ANTHC, learning alongside diverse teams that serve communities across Alaska. The partnership creates stronger pathways from education to employment, while also helping meet Alaska’s growing demand for healthcare workers.
“ANTHC is expanding to meet the health needs of Alaska Native and American Indian people. Our Board has made historic, multi-year investments to grow and modernize clinical facilities, as we also build critical infrastructure in rural communities that supports healthy Tribes,” said ANTHC President/CEO Natasha Singh. “This partnership reflects our commitment to growing Alaska’s workforce and becoming an employer of choice for mission-driven Alaskans who are dedicated to improving health across our state.”
“Addressing Alaska’s healthcare needs requires innovative collaboration,” said UAA Chancellor Cheryl Siemers. “With UAA being the primary provider of health education in Alaska, UAA is thrilled to partner with ANTHC. ANTHC’s investment in our university and students expands our ability to provide students with real-world learning opportunities in clinical and research environments they might not have had access to before. Together, UAA and ANTHC are developing the next generation of nurses, clinicians and healthcare professionals and creating pathways from the classroom to the frontlines of care in our state.”
ANTHC is the state’s largest Tribal healthcare organization. In addition to ANTHC’s clinical offerings at the Alaska Native Medical Center, the consortium addresses many other aspects of health through wellness programs, disease research and prevention, the Community Health Aide Program, the design and building of rural water and sanitation systems, and much more. The organization is one of the largest employers in Alaska, with more than 4,000 employees.
The faculty and staff in UAA’s College of Health ensure that students graduate with both the foundational knowledge and the hands-on experience needed to take on key roles in Alaska’s burgeoning healthcare workforce.
Students from all backgrounds will be encouraged to participate in this partnership, and this initiative will support pathways to employment in many professional disciplines at ANTHC.
