The Alaska Dental Therapy Educational Program (ADTEP) is offered in partnership between ANTHC the Iḷisaġvik College. Students have the option of applying for and obtaining an associate’s degree in dental therapy. The program supports health providers in the dental profession by offering academic credentials in addition to the certification. Those credentials facilitate the transition into higher-level career pathways. Dental therapy students will complete the didactic (classroom) and pre-clinic phase in Anchorage. The clinical phase is completed in Bethel and includes travel to remote villages to provide community-based oral health preventative care with a supervising ADTEP Clinical Instructor Dentist. The course of study is equivalent to three academic years. Upon graduation, DHATs are typically employed with a Tribal health organization and provide care to rural communities or underserved populations.
The program course catalog can be accessed through the Iḷisaġvik College at the following link: https://www.ilisagvik.edu/
Applicants may apply for Tribal health organization sponsorship to help offset the costs of the program and may include assistance with tuition, living and rental stipends, and other educational-related costs. Non-sponsored applicants are required to pay costs as billed through ANTHC and Iḷisaġvik college.
